This should include a minimum of 5 types of compost that you buy separately and mix together. Examples are aged cow manure, aged chicken manure, kelp meal, bat guano and worm castings. Perhaps you have your own compost you can also use.
Coconut Coir fiber is an eco-friendly alternative to peat moss and can be substituted for the peat moss in this ‘recipe’.
Mix equal parts of each, measured by volume, not by weight.
If you live near a Jung Garden Center (5 locations in Wisconsin) you can purchase bags of Mel's Mix and avoid having to make your own. It's ready to use with all the necessary components, sold in 2 cubic foot bags. For a 4'x4'x6" box, you will need 4 bags of Mel's Mix to fill it up completely. It includes 1/3 peat moss or coir, 1/3 coarse vermiculite and the best blended compost of 12 different ingredients, loaded with all the nutrients and minerals you can imagine
