One of the best heirloom beets for long term storage. The purple-red roots are round to somewhat elongated and can grow quite large without getting woody. A 6 inch diameter root isn't unusual. Their tender flesh and incredible sweet flavor provides a long season of good eating as they can be harvested at almost any stage. The huge, glossy green, pink-veined, chard-like tops are also delicious. Also called Winter Keeper.
