Packed with healthful benefits. Also known as Goji Berry and Matrimony Vine, this Chinese native is a vining shrub that grows 8 to 10 feet tall. Light purple bell-shaped flowers appear in May, continuing through the summer. Orange-red berries follow, ripening in early fall. The berries have rich, sweet flavor and are eaten fresh or dried like raisins. They contain some of the highest levels of antioxidants of any fruit, have more carotene than carrots and contain all essential amino acids and many minerals. The plants are self-fertile and drought-resistant. Likes full to one-half day sun.
