(Humulus lupulus) - Zones 5-8 An aroma-type hop with lower alpha acids used to add a spicy aroma to traditional English ales. No other vine is faster growing or more effective as an ornamental screen. Plants can grow up to 20 feet in one year when grown in a sunny location and are easily trained on a fence or trellis. Each year they die back to the crown in winter. In late summer the vines bear cone-like flowers that have a fresh, pine-like fragrance. The flowers are used in beer-making. Dark green, deeply lobed foliage is very attractive.
