A beautiful red Romaine that produces 10 to 12 inch heads of bronze-red with a green heart. Good for spring, summer and fall planting as it's cold-hardy and also tolerates heat. Color is deeper red in cool temperatures. An heirloom variety dating back to the 18th Century also known as Rouge d'Hiver or Red Winter.

couldn't get one seed to germinate * Admin Notes added 1/22/2015 11:55:51 AM: We're sorry to hear you had problems with germination. Some varieties of lettuce seed require light to germinate. Cover seed only slightly, or not at all. Seed germinates best at temperatures around 70 to 75 F, and germination is reduced at hot temperatures (above 80 F). Soaking seed for 24 hours in a lighted (not dark) area before planting can also improve germination, especially when temperatures are hot.
