An heirloom Eschalion, or banana shallot from France. Elongated, torpedo-shaped, pink-brown bulbs have a sweet, delicate flavor preferred by gourmet cooks. Highly productive plants resist bolting. Good for storage.

Wonderful mellow flavor! Planted inside in seedling mix, about 80% germination. Set out in May because we had a historically wet spring into June here in Minnesota, and I worried that my seedlings would drown. I grow all onions/shallots in mostly full sun, wide beds enriched with some compost and peat moss. I trim tops & roots to keep them easier to manage while planting. These shallots grew very tall out of the soil so I did mulch once with dry grass clippings. Harvested in late August, dried on our deck for a couple days, then stored in coolest part of basement. All have been eaten except 4 smaller ones, none sprouted in storage. I've just placed order for 2 more packets to start for this summer! Highly recommend.
