The first AAS winning ornamental kale in 78 years of AAS trialing. Glamour Red is considered a milestone in breeding for its unique shiny leaves. Unlike other kale and cabbage, the leaves do not have a waxy, grayish bloom coating the leaves, thus making their color more intense and vivid. When compared to other ornamental brassicas, Glamour Red's overall performance and striking brilliance was outstanding. The richly fringed leaves form tight heads 12 inches high and 10 to 14 inches across. This full sun annual requires about 90 days from sowing to first color. As night temperatures fall below 55 degrees F for approximately 2 weeks, the leaf color will develop fully. The plants become a rainbow blend of pink and lavender in their centers surrounded by green and blue-gray outer leaves. They're dazzling in pots or the fall flower border. Disease tolerance is excellent in all areas of the country and the frost tolerant plants will display their glory from November to March in warm climates.
