This fabulous deep yellow peony was the result of breeding work begun by Mr. Toichi Itoh of Tokyo in 1948. It's a cross between herbaceous and tree peonies and is herbaceous in character, but with color only found in tree peonies up to that time. It's prized for its large, semi-double blooms, up to 8 inches in diameter, of deep yellow with red blotches. The plants have foliage reminiscent of a tree peony, but the plants rarely exceed 36 inches in height. Flowers appear in late May and early June.
