These perennial heirloom onions form clusters of very small bulblets or sets on the tips of the leafstalks. An established plant resembles a clump of green scallions. Harvest sweet pungent scallions in spring and small pickling onion topsets in summer, leaving a few to reseed for a hardy permanent scallion bed. A package contains 10 sets.

This item ships in the fall.

Easy to grow
Feb 1, 2025  |  By Tracey Nixon
For whatever reason, I can't get regular spring onions to grow reliably. On the other hand, these "walking onions" plant themselves year after year, providing a steady supply of tasty spring onions for most months of the growing season. I bought some 8 years ago, and they are still going strong with zero care. In August they won't be as tender as you might want, but cut small and they will be fine to eat.
