These perennial heirloom onions, also called "tree onions" or "topsetting winter onions" form clusters of very small bulblets or sets on the tips of the leafstalks. An established plant resembles a clump of green scallions. Harvest sweet pungent scallions in spring and "small pickling" onion topsets in summer, leaving a few to reseed for a hardy permanent scallion bed. One bunch contains 10 sets. Bulbs typically ship in the fall. However, some bulbs may be available to ship in the spring--while supplies last.
