Estimated Ship Date: Spring Shipment (March-June)

A hardy cherry of high quality developed in Minnesota. Grows a dwarf vigorous tree 6 to 8 feet tall. Dense foliage has resistance to Leaf Spot. The cherries are bright red changing to a glistening mahogany color at maturity. Juicy, tender and pleasantly tart. Ripens in mid-July.

Although self-fertile, all fruit trees benefit from cross-pollination. We recommend planting with Montmorency and Meteor.

Lovely little tree! Buy from Jung's!
Jan 15, 2026  |  By JillB
In our last home (WI zone 5b), we had a North Star cherry in memory of my grandparents who always had cherry trees in S. Central MN. It was very healthy and extremely productive (alone) for at least 10 years - but sadly, a mower injury to its base eventually led to disease after an unusually wet season a few years later. However, until then it was a beautiful tree with tart cherries that froze well and made delicious pies and jams/preserves. My only wish is that it were more freestone, because pitting these is a chore, but so worth the work! We even let the birds eat their fill, and still had yields large enough to freeze fruit for about 6 pies a season. We have purchased dwarf fruit trees from another well known vendor and Jung's trees arrived better packaged, had better form, were larger and much more healthy/ vigorous after planting.

North Star Cherry Tree
May 21, 2024  |  By Janet Huebner
I received this cherry tree yesterday. The description stated 3'to 5' bare root whips. This cherry tree exceeded those dimensions considerably. Excellent packaging to prevent damage in shipping. Upgrading shipping was awesome. Thank you Jung Seed for an excellent cherry tree.
